Consumer Black Friday Shopping Predictions Released

A recent Black Friday survey conducted by BlackFriday.com revealed that U.S. consumers are bullish on Black Friday sales this year. 91 percent of survey respondents believe Black Friday 2010 will be at least as big as 2009, and nearly 60 percent believe it will be bigger. Apple’s iPad tops the list of the most sought after products on Black Friday, followed by Microsoft’s Kinect for the Xbox 360. Other newcomers that ranked high on people’s wish list were Apple’s iPhone 4, HTC Droids, Amazon’s low-priced Kindle, plus Sony and Samsung 3D TVs.

From a categorical perspective, deals in electronics remain the most popular category for Black Friday shoppers in 2010. Black Friday staples like laptops, televisions, camcorders, movies, music players, and video game consoles remain popular, but newer electronic products are expected to join the mix this Black Friday shopping season. In particular, e-book readers, smart phones and new video game motion-sensing technology may capture much of the attention.

The hottest toy craze for the Christmas season is always difficult to predict and seems to rely more on supply issues, but Zhu Zhu pets, pillow pets, Disney Tangled toys, and Beyblades top the consumer Black Friday toy predictions.

Smart marketers are expected to use Apple iPods, iPhones, or iPads as contest prizes because Apple doesn’t typically offer discounts during Black Friday. Given the price and uncertainty that surrounds 3D TVs, most people will be happy sticking with flat-screen HDTVs. Record low prices on gaming consoles, digital cameras, digital camcorders, netbooks, flat-screen monitors, and Blu-rays will likely generate high-volume sales for popular electronic retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon.com.

Question by : 1960 Motorola “Touraine” Drexel stereo console approx. dollar value (I believe listed at 5 new)?
While shopping for a new record player at a local vintage electronics store, I came across a 1960 Motorola “Touraine” Drexel stereo console with turntable and am/fm radio. It is in great working condition with the only noticable flaw being two “dings” in the very front of the console lid (very noticable, but still in good shape overall). After research I found the original list price from 1960 to be $ 675. I didn’t think the store owners asking price was necessarily that bad but when I was in the store he told me the original list price was $ 900. My problem is if he is overstating the original list price by over $ 200, is he doing the same with his current value? (I’ve decided to not say what he’s asking to avoid effecting anyones view of what they may suggest it is actually worth now)
Any suggestions?

It’s barely worth anything. Console stereos are basically crap. Only reason it’s sellable at all is because it’s tube electronics and some idiot will buy it because of that. The turntable will eat your records and no matter how “restored” they say it is, you can bet more work will need to be done soon. Many parts unobtainium. Does it really sound that great for the money? Don’t be that guy… lol.

What is your decision making process when you are considering which mobile device you are going to get ?  It doesn’t matter if you are shopping at a retail store or on-line, you would be surprised to find out that the cell phone carriers already know who we are, and what ‘packages’ we like the best.  Personally, I have the Blackberry Wireless Phone.

• Has your contract finally expired so you just get the most ‘cost effective’ upgrade, as recommended by your current carrier?

•  Perhaps you’re the type that has to get the ‘hottest’ product on the market.

•  Do you base your decision on price or need?

•  Possibly you have a large family and you’re looking for those two for the price of 1 deals.

•  perchance you buy a phone based on the age and gender of the person you are buying for.

•  Or is it based on your exact needs and how you use the phone.

So, for better or for worse I have categorized you below.

I speculate that you will be shocked to find out that the way we buy is not based on need, but a combination of want and self determined appropriateness.

What I have done is to place each ‘shopper’ into a specific category . Which Grouping do you fall into, or is it a combination of groups?

Mr. Easy Going: A new and exciting phone has just hit the market, just like the Droid did a few months ago. And yes, you want to have it, but . . . you don’t have any great need. You are 1 year into your contract and if you get it now it will be very expensive . You’d rather hear the reviews, have them work the bugs out, and when your contract is up, you’ll get it for a fantastic price!

Sir, I Want It NOW: Needless to say you probably already own the most recent iPhone, Blackberry Wireless Phone or a Droid. You’re an avid wireless user with a huge per minute package, data, text, pictures – the works. You feel you deserve the latest and the greatest on the market and you buy it on the day it is released, or within the week that it comes out – time allotting. You are simply fulfilling your want to have the best. Price is of no concern here.

The Analyst: There’s no question that you want the newest phone on the market, but . . . that bill does come every month. You analyze the features and connected benefits and truly decide if you just want it, or really need it. Generally you decide on a lower priced model as the features are really not something that you  must have or would even use, and the cost on a lower cell phone is just something that you can’t refuse. You truly like your decision and drive away ‘talking on the phone’ in the car you purchased – slightly used.

Mr. 2Fer: You have a wife, kids, a dog or a cat and an unshakeable budget to adhere to. If you can get 2 cell phones for the price of one – you’re in! And, the kids will get their cells on their birthday or a special affair.

Mr. Appropriate: You have the best phone in the family and your wife either has the same cell , the one just below it, or the cell that you were previously using. You have full data access, your wife may or may not and absolutely not the kids . The children have a far ‘lesser’ model, the same phone (or a hammy down from one to another) except in different colors. One child still wants a phone, but does not need it.

Mr. Comparison Shopper:  You know what phone you want. In fact, you know which wireless device everyone in your family should have, in spite what they want. You’ll talk off a salesperson’s ear to the point that even they don’t want to make the sale any longer. You’ll go home and maneuver your way on line to find the best possible price, with the best possible plan, with just the features that you need. By the time you buy your phone, two new phones have already been released.
