Buying A Cell Phone, What Kind Of Shopper Are You?

What is your decision making process when you are considering which mobile device you are going to get ? It doesn’t matter if you are shopping at a retail store or on-line, you would be surprised to find out that the cell phone carriers already know who we are, and what ‘packages’ we like the best. Personally, I have the Blackberry Wireless Phone.

Has your contract finally expired so you just get the most ‘cost effective’ upgrade, as recommended by your current carrier?

Perhaps you’re the type that has to get the ‘hottest’ product on the market.

Do you base your decision on price or need?

Possibly you have a large family and you’re looking for those two for the price of 1 deals.

perchance you buy a phone based on the age and gender of the person you are buying for.

Or is it based on your exact needs and how you use the phone.

So, for better or for worse I have categorized you below.

I speculate that you will be shocked to find out that the way we buy is not based on need, but a combination of want and self determined appropriateness.

What I have done is to place each ’shopper’ into a specific category . Which Grouping do you fall into, or is it a combination of groups?

Mr. Easy Going: A new and exciting phone has just hit the market, just like the Droid did a few months ago. And yes, you want to have it, but . . . you don’t have any great need. You are 1 year into your contract and if you get it now it will be very expensive . You’d rather hear the reviews, have them work the bugs out, and when your contract is up, you’ll get it for a fantastic price!

Sir, I Want It NOW: Needless to say you probably already own the most recent iPhone, Blackberry Wireless Phone or a Droid. You’re an avid wireless user with a huge per minute package, data, text, pictures – the works. You feel you deserve the latest and the greatest on the market and you buy it on the day it is released, or within the week that it comes out – time allotting. You are simply fulfilling your want to have the best. Price is of no concern here.

The Analyst: There’s no question that you want the newest phone on the market, but . . . that bill does come every month. You analyze the features and connected benefits and truly decide if you just want it, or really need it. Generally you decide on a lower priced model as the features are really not something that you must have or would even use, and the cost on a lower cell phone is just something that you can’t refuse. You truly like your decision and drive away ‘talking on the phone’ in the car you purchased – slightly used.

Mr. 2Fer: You have a wife, kids, a dog or a cat and an unshakeable budget to adhere to. If you can get 2 cell phones for the price of one – you’re in! And, the kids will get their cells on their birthday or a special affair.

Mr. Appropriate: You have the best phone in the family and your wife either has the same cell , the one just below it, or the cell that you were previously using. You have full data access, your wife may or may not and absolutely not the kids . The children have a far ‘lesser’ model, the same phone (or a hammy down from one to another) except in different colors. One child still wants a phone, but does not need it.

Mr. Comparison Shopper: You know what phone you want. In fact, you know which wireless device everyone in your family should have, in spite what they want. You’ll talk off a salesperson’s ear to the point that even they don’t want to make the sale any longer. You’ll go home and maneuver your way on line to find the best possible price, with the best possible plan, with just the features that you need. By the time you buy your phone, two new phones have already been released.

SholesMod 2.0.3 on Motorola Droid

This is SholesMod 2.0.3 running on the motorola droid. It has all the features of 2.1 except live wallpapers, which is pretty nice. Everything runs well at 800MHz, and very smoothly at 1GHz. This was recorded mostly sideways to increase the visible area/resolution, so sorry if you have to turn your head for most of it.

Motorola DROID – How to Create a Nandroid Backup – Part 1

Step 1
Download DroidRootHelper and Terminal Emulator (Jack Pelvich) Both can be found FREE in the market.

Step 2
Open DroidRootHelper, Click menu and download the TOOLS – Click on GET THE TOOLS

Step 3
After downloadin the TOOLS from DroidRootHelper, you must extract them (becuase its a zip file) to the root of the sd card. Keep the folder named TOOLS.

Step 4
Mount Mtdblock4
Install chmod Busybox
Install chmod flash_image
Flash Recovery 99.1b
Rename Recovery
Unmount System mtdblock 4
Sync
Reboot Recovery

Step 5
In recovery mode create a back up file using advanced nandroid back up, Check all boxes then click perform backup, once done use power button to cycle back out, and reboot.

Step 6
Update recovery to latest version- Copy Recovery-0.99.2b.img file to the ROOT of your SD card, you must be mounted via USB to do so. Now you can use Terminal Emulator to input the commands shown on my monitor, this will update you to the 99.2b.

Step 7
Rename the backup file you just created, mount your phone via USB, locate your backup inside the folder called Nandroid, click on the folder that says BSD-0009879- etc… right click and rename the folder to what you are comfortable with, copy that folder to your desktop or location that you want to save it to on your computer.

Step 8
Open up terminal emulator and type in commands EXACTLY like I am showing… Then reboot recovery and your done =D

Motorola Droid – How to UNROOT your device – The EASY way!

This is a guide on how to go back to STOCK settings, Warning this will clear your phone of ALL data, UNLESS you have backed up via Google’s servers.

Step 1
Download this file!

Step 2
Follow this guide if you need extra help

Step 3
Mount USB

Step 4
DELETE any files or file that says “update.zip”

Step 5
Take the file named “unroot_update.zip” that you downloaded to your desktop and place inside the ROOT of your SD card, Once its copied to the SD card you must rename the file to “update.zip” DO NOT EXTRACT THIS FILE!

Step 6
Reboot in Recovery- Hold power and X key at the same time

Step 7
Hit install
Allow update.zip installation
install sdcard/update.zip (depreciated)

Step 8
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/Factory Reset

REBOOT and your done!

Don’t worry you will have to resign into your Google account to get all your contacts and applications back.

Can I flash a Motorola Droid to Metro PCS with full web browsing and picture messaging?

I am planning on getting a motorola droid with a bad ESN number, but I would like to know if it is possible to have web browsing and picture messaging. If so how do I go about flashing it to Metro PCS?

it is possible but not in the moment.
the droid is like a iphone
iphone took about 3 months to unlock and another 2 months for the internet to work on tmobile.
the droid took 2 months to find a flash to metropcs (which has been found).
the code for the internet and mms for flashed metropcs droid has not yet been found or solve.
but i know it will be coming up soon

Question about the Google Android Platform?

This may apply to other operating systems as well. I dont know how to word it so ill use an example. So say when the motorola droid gets upgraded to 2.1 later this week, where does the upgrading take place, where does it go to? what part of the internal memory, RAM or software takes in the upgrade? So do phones with more of RAM or software or even the processor speed have anything do to with upgrading the phone to the next software point like going from 2.0 to 2.1?

The up grade will only affect what it is intended to upgrade. It will not alter the RAM. That is what it is, set from the manufacturer’s specs. Generally to upgrade RAM you have to replace the ‘chip’ itself. The upgrade should only work should only work on what it is intended to specifically improve. That will most likely be limited to improvements of program protocols. Anything you read about the update will only be speculation. But Here are what I consider worth while links.
