I Have Seen videos on youtube about this os and i love it i cant wait till this gets released i hear rumors of jan 11th, jan 22 or spring any solid info out there?
Other than the official announcement that it will be getting 2.1 at some time, there is nothing official from Verizon. Verizon will not release any firm dates on any updated unless they are 100% certain that they can deliver said update by that particular date… If they were to say Jan 11th, and something happened, say a bug is found, so that they can’t release on that date, you would have users across the nation screaming bloody murder… Because of this, most companies won’t give a date, period… They just start releasing the update without notice.
A word of caution to you. If you have rooted your Droid, or if you might possibly want to do so in the future, do NOT apply the updated from Verizon. They will almost certainly have fixed the bug in the old release that allowed users to gain root access, and the phone will be un-rootable if the update is applied. Developers may or may not find another exploit that allows root access.
If your phone is rooted, wait for one of the after-market ROM’s to be released with a pre-patched version of Android 2.1 that is based off of the ROM that Verizon officially releases. This "Patch and release" by the development community will assure that your phone retains root access.

I have owned a IPhone for a couple months and then decided to buy a motorola droid. I noticed that the games on the droid are nowhere near as good graphics wise. Why is this when the droid is a better phone in a graphics point?
I do not want any sarcastic "because apple products are the best", I am asking from a hardware perspective. Please keep your favoritism comments to yourself.
The developers aren’t taking the time and care they need to and that Apple demands. Right now, Android just wants volume – any apps are better than no apps.

motorola droid. When is it going to get Android 2.1? Or even better question. Will it? I have purchased a Droid just about a month ago. Then the Nexus One is officially released. Oh well I figured. But then realized that it has Android 2.1. Will the droid ever get 2.1 and if so when?
Thanks.
Yes, the Droid will be getting Android 2.1 and Flash 10 support.
The developers pack for 2.1 was released earlier this week, so it should be about a week or two before 2.1 actually starts rolling out to phones.

I want the motorola droid but my dad works for AT&T, so he cannot sign the contract for a different service (In this case, Verizon). I might come across the phone itself, but how can I get the service without him signing a contract?
I am 15 by the way, so I can’t sign it either.
You can try a couple things.
Buy the Verizon Droid or Eris at http://droidcellphone.com with no contract and get Verizon pay as you go plan. You can also buy pay as you go 3G Internet. $5.00 a day to $50.00 a month. $29.00 with a plan so you pay a couple bucks extra to use it.
You cant use the Verizon 3G Network without some kind of plan or pay as you go, but you can connect via Bluetooth and WiFi .
Android is totally open source so you are welcome to get the Droid Smartphones and hack away. Join the developers community and participate.
This is the most exciting time for the development of next gen aka 4G Smartphones. 100’s of millions of smartphones are expected to go online by 2012.
Get the Droid and use what you can until you can hack it for AT&T

I want to get a touch screen phone but have just statred listening and looking at the droid. What are some of the main differences without of the confusing lingo. Thanks
I’m looking at both phones myself including the HTC Imagio.
From what I can tell the Droid will be the better phone. It has a 5 MP camera with auto stabilization. The Storm only has 3.2 MP. The Droid has a real keyboard and a larger screen plus has FREE Google GPS!
I don’t think the iphone will be topped by this unless developers take advantage of it’s "open development" stance. Verizon is very strict about 3rd party support so this will be a turning point for them.
These talk more about it:
