I am thinking of getting a motorola droid without a contract, will verizon allow me to just get a data plan on the device? Thanks for all your help
No. A voice plan and the data plan are required regardless of how you buy the phone or how much you pay for it.

I currently have a plan with verizon wireless that covers unlimited data usage. When I went in to check out the Droid, the sales clerk mentioned that with the Droid there is an ADDITIONAL data usage charge of about $30 for this phone. Is this true? I didn’t think to ask but I am hoping he assumed I didn’t already have the unlimited data plan.
If you’re using an upgrade, you will be signing a new contract and the data plan is required. If you’re buying the phone for full price and just sctivating it under your current contract and that contract already has the $30/month data plan, you will not be paying anything extra.

I want to get a motorola droid but do i have to pay $30 extra each month or should i just get an env touch? I have verizon.
i was also looking into getting the droid, its a real nice phone all together, not as nice as the storm 2. Im also getting a new phone next week and i was looking through different phones to get. i decided im going to get the versa with the keypad, its the same thing as the dare, but it has a keyboard. so you can never get tired of it.
the reason im not getting the droid or the storm is the data plan….i wish i could get the phone with no data plan

i am currently with tmobile,i am interested in getting the motorola droid from verizon. is the droid worth leaving tmobile?
It’s definitely worth it if you value quality above price. What happened when I got my Droid was that I could have chosen the T-mobile version of it – the Cliq. However, like all other carrier remakes of the Droid, the Cliq was pretty awful in comparison to the original Verizon version. Not nearly as smooth and cool looking, not as powerful in terms of both phone and carrier capacity, and their displays were definitely not as pretty as the Verizon Droid. However, there’s also the cost to consider. A single line with 450 anytime minutes, unlimited messaging, and the data plan comes to $80 a month already for me. That’s including the $30 data plan, which is mandatory on the Droid. No, they do not let you purchase unlimited data plans on the Droid, or the Blackberry Storm for that matter. So you really have to consider it: are you willing to pay almost twice of what you do to T-Mobile? As for me, I felt it was definitely worth it despite the fact that I have to work a part-time job to help pay for the bill since my mom refused to get me the phone otherwise.

Can I buy the motorola droid for verizon without a plan then go back and buy a plan later?
Unless you agree to a 2 year contract (or extension) it’ll cost you $599.99. Even then you must activate the data plan in order to activate the phone. Verizon does not allow smartphones on their network without a data plan.

how and when can i pre-order the verizon wireless motorola droid cell phone, if it is possible to do so?
Okay, Its called the motorola droid. Its a Smartphone running Android 2.0 Eclair. Its going to be released on November 6, 2009 on Verizon Wireless.com, in-stores, and other retailers. Best Buy is accepting pre-orders now. Its going to be $299 with a 2/year contract with a $100 mail-in-rebate from Verizon in a form of a Debit Card. OR if you get it from Best Buy they give you the Rebate Instantly which means you only pay for the $199 price tag since thats what the phone is after rebate. Now Monthly you have to pay a $30/Data Plan which is mandatory to have the phone as well as the Voice plan and if you want Visual Voicemail, Text, Insurance, etc thats also extra. But the Minimum your looking at is the Data Plan and Voice plan. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Good Luck.
