Question by horizonwnw: Looking to change from LG Voyager on Verizon…What should I get?
I’ll be eligible for that “New Every 2″ program w/ Verizon in a couple of days, and I’m looking to get rid of my LG Voyager. (Loved it when I first had it, but cannot WAIT to get rid of it now!) Don’t like the idea of having to pay for a “data plan” with my phone, but I guess I don’t really have a choice anymore. Really want a QWERTY keyboard, and the phone will be mainly for personal (not business) use. Good bit of texting and calling. Have read about LG Env3, LG Env Touch, motorola droid, Motorola Devour. Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions? Thanks!

Hey! Out of the all of the phones that you listed, I would get the EnV touch, or the Motorola Droid! Reason why? Okay to start: I love the EnV’s Keyboard, and the touch screen is just the bomb! And The Droid: I love its keyboard, its features & Capabilities, all of the diff. apps and everything! Overall, (in my personal opinion), I would get the Motorola Droid!

Question by : Is the new Android (2.2) “Froyo” release going to automatically update your Droid Incredible?
I want to buy a droid Incredible tonight, but I have a noob developer question: verizon is talking about the cool new features of the 2.2 Android OS release, but is this only on new phones? Or is this a download/automatic update that I will eventually be able to have on an Incredible I buy tonight?

Basically, do I have to wait for the Android 2.2 release to then buy a phone with Android 2.2 capabilities?

No, just buy the phone.

When the Froyo version for your phone is released, you’ll get a notification. I have heard that some phones on certain carriers require a download to a computer and a USB connection to update (I think this is on Sprint). Otherwise, you’ll get a notification and the update is received OTA and upgraded directly.

Whatever you do, don’t root the phone if you want the updates from Verizon, because rooting and modding usually kills any carrier OTA updates.

However, if you are going to root and mod, the 2.2-based ROMs are usually out before the OTA updates begin. So, you won’t lose anything. I have a Nexus One that I’ve rooted and modded with Cyanogen’s ROM. When those guys release a 2.2 ROM, I’ll update then.

But if you leave the phone stock, you’ll get the update pushed to you when it’s ready. Be patient; the 2.2 Development Kit was only released the other day, so it might be a little while before you see Froyo.

If your cellphone has the internet I would suggest you go to www.mobile17.com. All you have to do is sign up (Completely free!) by putting your cell number and provider and answer a couple of questions about your phone’s capabilities and then you can upload any 3-40 second fragment of any song you have on your computer and they text it to you. You then can go online on your cellphone and download it and it sounds pretty good! (I may make that sound relatively difficult, but the website is VERY user friendly and you will not be confused!) You can make a donation to the website and you get the ringtone in under a minute or so. If not, unfortunately you can wait up to 6 hours to receive it. But it sure beats paying $ 1.99 or more for a 7 second clip! I would also suggest (If you don’t have it already) downloading iTunes so you can easily see the lengths of your songs and at what time you would like you ringtone clip to start. If you don’t want to pay the $ .99 for the song file I would also suggest Limewire. Hope this works for ya!
